Old plaid couch

February 10, 2011 by Shelley

This couch was from my clients friend. She called me because it needed a new life. The fabric was wearing through on the cushion fronts…so she put the zipper side out to make it last a little longer. The back cushions were quite a bit saggy, so I had her pick up a bag of quilt batting for when I brought the slipcover back. I took the old covers off and wrapped the batting around the insert and then put the old covers back on. Then I put the new slipcover cushions on…that way when she takes the slipcover off to get it cleaned, the batting is contained and not all over the place.

Before.

Look at the saggy back cushions

After…. look at how much fuller and new the back cushions look. Quick fix for about $12 total for the batting.

Front of arm…she chose a great red linen that had a backing (white muslin) on it. So it was really stable, thick and more heavy duty than normal linen.

She topped it off with some pillows from IKEA.

Club chair

February 9, 2011 by Shelley

This chair was for a darling repeat client…last time my husband did the drop off and pick up for me, so I never got to meet her. Anyhow…she had this chair in her basement that was a little dated… burgandy stripes.

She chose a great neutral soft textured fabric that was pretty thick. We decided to take off the skirt and show the legs. Which in the end was a great plan, because I don’t think I could’ve got a pleated skirt on that slipcover because the fabric was so thick.

The bottom edge of the chair curved on the sides, but she decided she wanted it straight across. So the legs look shorter.

Before.. I already took the skirt off before I took the picture. You can see the fade line of where it was, if you look close.

After…Who needs to buy a new chair when your old one can look this great! Love the fabric! She prewashed the fabric…so when the kids get it a little dirty she can take it off and put it in the washer.

Close up of the front

Another close up.

I love the green pillow and green walls too. I am a sucker for green. I think it stems from my childhood. In one of our old houses, my mom had the fireplace mantel and all the wood trim painted sage green, oh and the carpet was green too. We all made fun of it all the time, but she loved it. Now look at me, “Momma’s girl”!

My sisters and I call each other “momma’s girl” when we do or say something that is SO our mom.

Better After Blog

February 3, 2011 by Shelley

So if any of you are like me…you love to look at before and after pictures of any kind…furniture, remodeling, slipcovering, decorating, etc. Well my sister Angie told me about this blog called better after where all she posts are before and after pics that are sent in to her. I emailed her a few of my blog posts and she featured me! Go over and check out her blog…http://www.betterafter.blogspot.com/

There’s nothing like the satisfaction of making something awesome out of something ugly….especially when everyone is doubting the piece. I love to see their reaction when they realize they were wrong, and the piece was worth saving!!! Especially when that person is my husband, and then he has to tell me that I’ve got skills. Well it usually doesn’t come out in those specific words…so that’s when I have to go grab a neighbor and she tells me that I’ve got skills.

I loved her site..and the different ideas and inspiration I got from it.
