Waterfall Skirt and DVD giveaway

March 16, 2012 by Shelley

First off  Rooster and the Hen are hosting a giveaway for my How to Slipcover DVD. So head on over and check it out!   I love their Logo!

I did a pair of these chairs for a designer client….she asked for no piping except on the cushion and a waterfall skirt.

In all my 11 yrs of slipcovering, I have not yet done a waterfall skirt. I have thought about them and envisioned doing them, and have layed in bed figuring out how to make them work. So it was exciting to finally do one, and it worked out like it did in my head. YEA!

Chair before…

Chair— After….I actuallly liked the look of no piping on this one. Kind of gave it a different feel.

Front of the arm- I angles the front skirt piece to cover over the front edge of the arm, so the front skirt piece would be all one piece.

I guess I should explain what a waterfall skirt is….it’s when the skirt isn’t attatched separately.  The skirt is part of the main body. Normally the skirt is attatched to the main body with piping sewn in between.

I tacked the top of the pleat of the skirt for added durability.

I really liked the casualness of this chair. The fabric was a textured chunky woven cream cotton. LOVED IT!

Striped Nursery Chair

March 8, 2012 by Shelley

This chair was for my clients nursery. She chose a peach/cream stripe. She wanted to make it a little more modern and interesting, so we ran the stripes across on the skirt and on the front of the arms.

At first we thought we’d do them across on the skirt and on the bands of the cushions, but I thought it would be better to do the front of the arms instead. That way the stripes weren’t broken up going down the front of the chair. I thought it might be too distracting to the eye.

Chair—AFTER

Close up of the front of the arm.

I also decided to move the pleat from the front corner to the side…

Side note—-About a month ago I signed up for a community continuing education photography class. I  am half way done with the class and it’s going well! Last week for class we got to practice shooting…here are a few pics I took. I am proud to say, I finally understand all my settings and light meter (which is my new best friend).

French Country Family Room and Ebook Pillows

March 4, 2012 by Shelley

Heber, my awesome husband went and picked up these chairs for me. My client lives up Emmigration Canyon. She threw in an extra chair last minute, which was great because she had a huge roll of heavy weight blue linen to use up.

1st chair— BEFORE, small rounded back chair

2nd chair— BEFORE—Large chunky wingback

3rd chair— BEFORE– her dad’s old pea green scrolled back velvet chair

Chair #2— AFTER— we did a straight skirt with pleats in the corners

Chair #3 AFTER— we did no skirt, and ended with piping to let the legs show.

Chair#1—AFTER–we did a knife pleat skirt to show the legs. I wanted to make each chair skirt differently to add to the eclectic look of the chairs.

Front of arm on chunky wingback.

Chair #1— in the room with upholstered couch and yellow chair.

I did a band along the front edge of this chair to hug the shape.

Love the scroll back on this chair.

SIDE NOTE—
I’ve been working hard on my ebook—“Pillow Talk”–make pillows with piping and a zipper.
All the text written up and the step by step photos were taken last week. Next week it’s all going to be put together. I have a great friend named Kelly that does logos and layouts, who’s going to design and layout my book for me. I can’t wait!

Here is a pic of the pillows I demoed…knife edge, mitered, bolster, ruffled, and piping pillow.

I made all the pillows out of oatmeal/cream painters drop cloth and used turquoise piping.

I am selling this collection of 5 pillows for $125 total plus $25 shipping. They will be available to ship on 3/10/12. (I need to make sure I don’t need any more pics for the ebook first)

They all have down inserts. The 3 square pillows are 19″, the bolster is 17″ long, and the ruffled pillow is 15″x24″ with a 1″ ruffle.

Email me if you want them, and I’ll paypal you an invoice! thanks.
