Booked till January 2018

August 15, 2017 by Shelley

First off…I am booked till January 2018. Please email me to get on my list for January slipcovershelley@yahoo.com

IT has been a CRAZY summer, although I say that every year.. We camped Carlsbad State beach, went to a family reunion in Mcall, Idaho, as well as all the kids activities of mountain biking, practices, helping my mom sell her house,  etc.

I have been sewing non stop in between all these adventures. I’d share some photos, but my computer crashed last week and they are still trying to recover my files. I always post regularly on my Instagram account @slipcovershelley if you want to keep up with on going projects that I have there.

Side notes–here are a few of my favorite photos from our summer adventures

We camped at Carlsbad state beach for the 9th year in a row!

Bird Chair

January 4, 2017 by Shelley

My client picked up this chair at a yardsale for $20! It had a great cozy feminine shape for her guest room. She chose a great whimsical bird fabric for her chair. It was a bit of work with the rounded inside back and matching up the birds and twigs going down the front, but we were both thrilled with the outcome.

Chair–BEFORE

Chair—AFTER  We decided to add a 8″ skirt just to mix it up and change the look a little.

img_6320Here’s a pic of her guest room. She’s got a darling older home with lots of character and personality, so this chair fit in perfectly with her style.

img_6317 With the rounded inside back I sewed a few darts and topstitched them.

img_6318If you’ve never been able to master the tuck in area for a rounded inside back chair, I offer tips in my “Get it Covered” Advanced Slipcover Guide. It took me years to figure out the trick for a smooth tuck in that doesn’t pull and allows you to tuck it in deep into the crevice.

Side Notes

  1. My Vintage Camper is just about done! I’ve written up a post with all the info to rent it starting in the Spring 2017! I’ve been so excited about this little project! If you want to see pics of the progress on instagram search #andersoncamper
  2. I booked flights for my family to go to Puerto Rico later this fall. I was feeling sentimental and a bit teary eyed that my oldest will be a senior in high school in the fall, and that will be his last year at home. I saw a great price on flights, and after a 2 minute conversation with Heber, I booked them. I’m all about making memories, and making this last year count! Which reminds me of my goal this year to have more magic moments as a family. You know those few and far between moments when time stands still, and you look around and everyone is happy and the feeling is magic? And you are trying to commit that moment to your long term memory as it’s happening? Yes! I want more of those—which means the boys have to be on board and stop fighting!15673041_10211670153089821_3205908046415157488_nHere was one of our #magicmoments over Christmas break. Skiing as a family on Christmas Eve. Heber started all the boys skiing when they were 3 years old, so they are all faster than me now. Well, I was never really that fast, it took me two years of cross country skiing to get back on the bunny hill after the first time Heber took me when we were dating. I didn’t like going fast.  #utahboy #californiagirl

Drop cloth slipcover

September 12, 2016 by Shelley

My client wanted a drop cloth slipcover.

Oh my goodness! It’s been awhile! Summer is a crazy time, and I’m realizing blogging goals during the summer should be non existent! The energy it takes to get a turn on the computer when all the kids and their friends are home is overwhelming.

Couch–AFTER–My client decided to use painters drop cloth and forgo the piping except at the top of the skirt.  I did a 1/4″ topstitch everywhere else. Also no center pleat on the skirt for a cleaner look.

Disclaimer–I recommend using cream duck cloth instead of painters drop cloth for a longer lasting slipcover. Drop cloths have lots of flaws and runs and weak spots that don’t hold up after several washings. This wasn’t a high use room and my client liked the texture of the washed drop cloth, so for her it was great.

She made it pop with some fun pillows and a coordinating footstool.

Side notes–

This is what summer looks like at our house. The boys are always up to making some contraption. Now all the neighbors message me to see if my boys want the junk piles of wood, doors, etc. before they get rid of them.13315381_10209603829073012_3925829364298064408_n

Every summer for the past 8 years, we’ve camped at Carlsbad State beach. My Nephew joined us this year as well as 6 other families from our neighborhood. They boys are starting to pass us up in height!13599757_10209918379176568_8096153747479766491_n

Heber’s grammy passed away about 12 years ago while I was pregnant with my last baby. When we went to visit her at the hospital for the last time, she told us it was another boy coming our way. This summer Heber’s aunt let me into grammy’s closet to see if there was anything I wanted. I found this BEAUTIFUL vintage wool dress that grammy had sewn for herself back in the day. I love it, and it fit perfectly!13692727_10210051275858902_1216121946203398462_n

This summer–My girls and I have been training for our 50K (32 miles). Our race is in less than 2 weeks! This pic is when we hiked to the top of Mount Timpanogos and ran down (15 miles roundtrip).14068259_10155191829329616_4229962743238256853_n

I got to go to New York for the first time a few weeks ago for my friends bday. She works for Jet Blue–so six of us used buddy passes and flew to New York, saw as many sites as we could for a day and a half and then flew back home. It was an AMAZING whirlwind! 14222265_10210497646217882_4315532241958930760_n
