Blue/White Stripe Chair

June 25, 2014 by Shelley

This is my first post on my new wordpress site. I have no idea what I am doing!

Oh some exciting news…I am offering a 20% off promo code for all my tutorials. Use Promo code “SUMMER” till Midnight 7/4/14.

This space had been redesigned by TheGrandeDesign for their clients teenage daughter. They pulled the chair from the master bedroom to repurpose it in this space. I love how well all the colors look together and all the bold prints. Definitely an amazing space!

BEFORE–burgandy Chenille chair that was being used in another room.

Love the way this turned out!

I ended up sewing ribbon on those front corners and tied them underneath behind the front legs of the chair to hold it taught.

SIDE NOTE#1—Summer vacation is always  a party! Whether I’m driving the boys and their friends to the store to buy treats or taking them to the mountain to look for snakes or driving them to the top of Unity pass to longboard home–I love it and love being available for them. I’m sticking to my 2 day work week during summer break, so please be patient with me while I work through my wait list.

Can’t wait for our annual camping at Carlsbad State beach with 6 other families from the neighborhood. The kids have been talking about it for months! Last week I found some cheap flights on Allegiant Air to Honolulu during Christmas Break. We’ve been talking about getting the whole family to Hawaii again, so we bought our flights! Did I mention how much I love trips?! Oh and I may have booked Belize as well for a couples trip in January–Oh man I need to simmer down! I did get it on a Living Social Deal for $540 with a 10% off promo code. Now I’m trying to get enough sky miles to book our flights for free!

#2–Camille and I helped our friend Brooke stage her mantel the other day after an excursion to the local Thrift Store! Turned out AMAZING!

Hi Shelly I just wanted to drop you a little note to say thank you for you expert advice in the ebook that you put together “get it covered” I just completed my first “real” on site fitting and dropped it off today It went perfectly and I could not have done it without your direction.
so Thank you Thank you;)
Cyndi
Thank you Shelley!!! I am so incredibly grateful for you sharing your knowledge. Your slipcover video and ebooks have given me the confidence and few new skills to start my own little slipcover business…And it is taking off!!! Up until now, all of the slipcovers I have made have been pin, cut, and sew, piece by piece. As long as I trust my pinning at my machine, it turns out beautiful. Thank you. Autumn

Autumn’s SLIPCOVERS!!!

Again, I feel like a proud momma!! ~ Nothing makes me happier than to see you all learn a new skill and put it to good use, whether you are just updating your own furniture or starting a home based business and updating someone else’s furniture!

My Advanced guide builds on the skills you learned in my Slipcover DVD. I cover the detail techniques–patten matching, knife pleats, gathered skirts, different hem options, telephone arms, etc. Lots of what I show are aha moments to save you time and heartache.

PhotobucketMy Pillow Talk ebook will teach you how to make your pillows with zippers.

the whole 9 yards photo whole9yards.jpgMy Whole 9 Yards PDF talks about how to start and run a successful Slipcover Business of your own–From legal stuff, tax stuff, equipment, scheduling. hiring help, and managing your time.

Now onto business—
My client wanted to freshen things up for summer. She had a beautiful velvet couch already, but she picked up a similar shaped chair at a local consignment shop. She chose a chair that had a similar shape to the couch. They both have my favorite english rolled arms.

 Chair–BEFORE–brown corduroy.

 BEFORE–brown velvet couch

AFTER–white cotton heavy canvas fabric

She had some amazing pieces–loved her coffee table in the rustic wood and the textured rug…PERFECT!

 Also–how cute is that basket???

She decided she wanted to do tall skirts to mix up the look from before.

The slipcovers brightened up her whole space.

Side Note–Spent a fabulous weekend with Gina from Slipcover Chic and Kristi from Pink and Polka Dot doing a little continuing education–We spent our time on Waterfall skirts, parson chairs, wing backs, and pillows.

I took the redeye flight in to North Carolina and Kristi picked me and and we met Gina at Dockside for lunch on the water.

Gina had the cutest workroom, where we lounged, laughed, took pics, instagrammed, and worked.

We also spent some time at the beach! I love the beach. I grew up in Southern California, so the beach is my happy place! Utah is beautiful and the mountains are amazing–but there’s nothing like the beach. Can’t wait for our annual Carlsbad beach camping trip with my neighbors.

OF course we hit up the local fabric store as well!

Slipcover DVD and Advanced Guide Testimonials

-I am loving watching your dvd…. I have watched it twice now. I have had a sewing workroom for several years now, sewing window treatments, cushions, pillows, bedding, etc. I keep thinking I need to specialize in something because there is just so much out there to sew. I think I have found it. I will have to practice making a few on my own furniture to be sure, but your dvd was awesome. I am such a hands on person and watching you work on the dvd made me feel like I was right there. If you ever do have a seminar, I would love to come meet you and learn oh so much more….Hoping to step up my business by specializing. I also have enjoyed going through your blog and looking at all the various projects, gives me ideas and inspiration.

-I actually just ordered your advanced slipcovers ebook yesterday. So exited. Your instructions are very clear and easy to understand. AFter sewing for over 30 years, and officially having a workroom for about the last 7 years, I am exited to try some slipcovers and finally get a website put together. As soon as I finish the website, I would love to have your feedback. Your resources are invaluable. Thanks so much. I am completely inspired when I read your blog, watch your dvd and look through your ebook. You have inspired me to sew more and save money….(which my husband really appreciates too!)
-THank you soooo much!  I just love your dvd and book.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched the dvd and the book remains open on my desk top all day!

My client had these amazing antique needle point chairs, she wanted a slipcover on them to help protect them. That way she can let the kids on them and not stress. These light blue linen 2 piece slipcovers with 1/4″ french welt and ballet ties were designed by Hilary Taylor! She had great vision on these!

 BEFORE–

AFTER–light blue lined linen slipcovers with 1/4″ french welt (flange) trim.

Hilary Taylor is a designer in the SLC area– she did an amazing job on her dining room!

SIDE NOTES!

-Camille and I started writing our decorating guide “Sytling Cents” –Reuse, Repurpose, Revive your space. It’s going to walk you through the steps of redoing a room — paint, shopping, furniture placement, and accessories all on a RIDICULOUSLY low BUDGET! It’s also going to include tutorials on making curtains, pillows, lamp shade covers, how to hang curtains, etc.

-We headed to St. George for Spring break with our new inflatable paddle boards from Xterra

Paddle boarding at Sand Hollow State Park. They call this place “Little Lake Powell”. It was pretty amazing, we jumped off red rocks and cruised around the reservoir on paddle boards.

I LOVE the paddle boards, we came home and ended up Preordering a third one (12’6″). I could be out there all day!

We also headed into Zions for a day and hiked Angels Landing.  Yes, I am in a maxi dress–we had planned to paddle board this day and then got to the reservoir and it was way too WINDY! We didn’t want to drive 30 min. back to the room, so we all made do. Flip flops, tied up my maxi dress–my famous words to my boys–“find a solution” was in effect for that day.
