Polka dot wingback

November 4, 2016 by Shelley

I’m booked till January! Please email me to get on my list for January. Thanks!

My client wanted to transform her chair into a polka dot wingback. She chose a great grey and cream barkcloth fabric which shaped all the curves perfectly.

img_1600Chair–BEFORE –Cute, but my client wanted to update and freshen things up a bit.

Chair–AFTER! 4″ box pleat skirt along the bottom to finish it off.

Wingbacks can be tricky with the tuckins on the inside wings. This fabric bent and shaped well, so it went great.

IF you want tips on wingbacks or doing a box pleat skirt. Check out my Advanced Slipcover Guide. “Get it Covered” offers these tips as well as many more on matching, rounded inside back chairs, different skirts, on site fittings, etc.  It’s an instant download.

If you aren’t ready for advanced tips. I also have a “How to Slipcover” DVD that teaches you the basics and walks you through doing a basic rolled arm chair with piping, cushion, and skirt. It’s a great skill to learn to freshen up your home and update your space.

Side notes– I’ve been obsessed and working hard on my camper! Yesterday I finally got to sew the awning out of 20 oz outdoor fabric, while Heber did the hard part and figured out how to install the flag pole brackets. He had to cut open the walls inside and put in extra bracing.14956061_1509018442457961_5332741991170380631_nWe finished right before dark and I was able to set it up and get a pic. I’ve been envisioning this whole awning part for 6 weeks–so it was exciting to see it come together! I couldn’t be happier.

I will be renting out the camper starting next spring for $75/night. You hook it up and take it where you want. NO bathroom. Sleeps 2 adults and 3-4 smaller kids. If you want to get on the reservation calendar before I officially get it set up on Airbnb send me an email. I’ll do an official post with more pics in the next few weeks.

Slipcover Workshop April 29-30th

March 3, 2016 by Shelley

Aprilworkshop

This is the only slipcover workshop I’ll be scheduling this year. There are 2 spots remaining!

I have 15 years of slipcovering experience and would love to show you some tricks of the trade, whether you are interested in making your own slipcovers or aspire to start your own business at some point.

Workshop Testimonial

I did my first paid job for 2 chairs and ottoman for a neighbor, she loved them.  Bought a couch made for a slipcover at an outlet yesterday for our new house.  Busy sewing all weekend. Guess I’m hooked!

Thanks again for everything, it was a lot of fun!

DETAILS

*April 29-30th, 2016 (2 day workshop–to ensure everyone isn’t rushed and has time to finish their project)

*9am-4pm both days

*Bring a chair, pre washed fabric, thread, tape measure, scissors, quilting pins, and sewing machine with zipper foot (If you are flying in from out of state, I will provide chair and fabric for you)

*Choose a simple lined chair. I wouldn’t recommend a wingback for your first project. Wingbacks have a lot more seams and curves and are more time consuming.

*I”ll supply piping, zippers, and serger

*1st day–sew piping, pin fit, and sew main body

*2nd day–add skirt detail and sew box cushion.

*Class sized capped at 4 spots

COST

$250 (Includes lunch both days)

LOCATION

On site at my work studio in Eagle Mountain, UT

What you will gain from this experience

-Basic slipcovering skills

-Learn how to make piping, install zipper with ease, and complete your 1st slipcover

-Skills to recover your own stuff over and over to your hearts desire

*Workshop is for beginner to intermediate sewers–you need to be familiar and comfortable with your machine and have basic sewing skills.

*Please email me to secure your spot. $250 will be due via paypal (heberj1@yahoo.com) to confirm your reservation. Non-refundable.

*Currently 2 spots left!
