Washable velvet slipcover

May 28, 2016 by Shelley

My client wanted a washable velvet slipcover, and while we were at it she wanted taller back cushions that were more in scale with the LARGE couch.IMG_5394Couch–BEFORE

IMG_5395 Couch–AFTER! We kept the same lines as the original and did no piping. I finished off the seams with a topstitch.

I also kept the waterfall skirt like the original. 1.5″ blind hem.

IMG_5400 She had some great pillows to top it off.  I am a huge advocate for down pillows. They make your pillows look so much nicer. They never go flat and hard like the polyfiber ones.

IMG_5401This sofa slipcover was commissioned by Harker Design in SLC. They have a great showroom, and very talented designers. I’ve worked with them on several occasions, if you need a designer check them out.

Side Notes–

#1- I may be crazy! I just signed up for a 32mile trail race with my girls! This isn’t a relay! We all run 32 miles in the mountains of Park City.

#2- My oldest son got to run in the Medley relay at State last weekend. He ran the 800m portion. He was so excited to be able to compete. I love sitting and watching the meets. Fresh air, kids giving it their all, finishing strong, and huge beautiful mountains to look at. I am so proud of how hard he’s worked this year. He holds the sophmore record at his school for the 2 mile race. 13256070_10209548282284377_7102727306300483520_n

#3–Heber got the lights back up on the deck at the cabin. We are still renting it out for $50/night, and you clean up and change linens before you leave. I’ve still got lots of dates available for the summer. Email me if you want to book a few nights.

#4–The beginning of this year, I was overly concerned about setting goals to make things happen for this year. Just 5 months later, I realized I shouldn’t have been so concerned. Things come up and get done and happen because of overall BIGGER life goals that I think about on a weekly basis, instead of just in January.

It’s funny how things happen and fall into place when we FOCUS on it. Everything seems to revolve around it, in my neurotic mind. I was concerned I wouldn’t have anything to show for this year…ha! How do I still not know myself?? Now I can relax…We remodeled the dining room, and I paid off our BYU Condo Rental this month!

Ikat Chair

August 14, 2014 by Shelley

My client got this great tan/cream Ikat. I decided to do a waterfall skirt since we were tight on fabric and the fabric had a pretty large repeat. I forgot to get a before pic…Basically it was a muslin covered chair that was intended to have a slipcover.

AFTER–The morning light wasn’t kind to my photos! Anyhow you get the idea! I added some extra down fill to the back pillows. They were flat and hard poly fill. I LOVE down pillows, they make your furniture look better.

Blind hem and matching of course! After 12 years of making slipcovers, I finally came up with a painless way of matching that doesn’t require you to keep putting the slipcover on and off to match repeats. I included these instructions in my  “Get it Covered”–Advanced Slipcover Guide. It’s like Magic, I promise! I actually look forward to matching large repeats now.

SIDE NOTE–

Camille and I have started staging homes that are for sale. Here is a link to our Styling Cents Facebook Page. Here are a few before and after pics of a job we did a few weeks ago. Our theory is to use what you have and not spend all your $!

BEFORE—Front room

AFTER–Front Room—We were so EXCITED with the way this room turned out. The owner was in awe–“It looks like a model home, I couldn’t be happier”. We used their furniture (couch and chairs) and brought in a coffee table, little bookshelf, end table, pillows, lamps, and nick backs from our stash. IT’s all about using what you have and giving it some WOW factor.

BEDROOM–BEFORE— The bedroom was dark and dated. We wanted to freshen it up a bit and make it more modern.

AFTER–We found a king white coverlet in their linen closet, brought up their rug from downstairs, pulled the chair in from the loft, hung a mirror we found in the hallway, and replaced their curtains with a fresh set of white and a set of grey curtains to fill in the bay window. We tried to make it work with the chocolate brown wall, but in the end we had the homeowner paint it–MUCH BETTER!

We brought lamps, pillows and accessories from our stash to finish it off. Now that’s a MASTER BEDROOM!!!

Grey Linen Wingbacks

May 19, 2014 by Shelley

My clients Inspiration pic for her chairs. She wanted an upholstered look as much as possible.

BEFORE—a great set of unique squared wing backs.

AFTER–grey linen with 3.5″ white self lined linen band with a waterfall skirt.

My client is moving next month into a new house, so we just shoved these in her current front room to get a few pics. Can’t wait to see them in her new house!

On the Waterfall skirt, I decided to just have the front/back fold back and the sides act as the underlay.

I topstitched the band to add some extra detail and to help it lay nicer.

Side Notes—

1. Heading to North Carolina in a few days to meet up with Gina from Slipcover Chic and Kritsi from Pink and Polka Dot for a little slipcover girls weekend! Follow me on Instagram to see some of our adventures! Search “slipcovershelley”

2. Had a great girls weekend up at Wolf Creek, UT. Watched some of my girls come into the finish line for the Ogden Half. Then we hit up the local Salvation Army where I found this $5 bookshelf! Found a spot at the end of my hall for it. I LOVE IT!!! Then we paddle boarded, hot tubbed, and watched movies.

3. Camille and I are working on our next room Makeover! Turning this boys room into a baby girl nursery with hot pink and grey on a $200 budget. Hoping to install in the next few days!

And yes we’ve been making some progress on our “Styling Cents”–reuse, repurpose, and revive your space decorating guide. We have a few more pics to get, then we send it off to our layout designer to make it look pretty!
